Corrections
When we get something wrong, we correct it openly. Every correction is dated and listed here, with what was wrong and what we changed.
Our policy
A fact-checker that hides its own mistakes cannot ask others to correct theirs. When we find, or are shown, an error in our work, we:
- correct the page as soon as the error is confirmed;
- add a dated note on the corrected page explaining what changed; and
- list the correction in the log below.
We never silently edit a published verdict. Minor fixes that do not change meaning, such as typos or broken links, are made without a log entry.
What counts as a correction
- A factual error in a fact check, article or page.
- A verdict that changes because of an error in our reasoning or evidence.
- A misquotation or misattribution.
When a verdict changes because new evidence emerges, rather than because we made a mistake, we mark the fact check Updated and explain the change. If the verdict itself changes, we also list it here.
Reporting an error
Write to the editors through our contact page. Tell us the page, the passage, and what you believe is wrong, with evidence if you have it. We acknowledge every report and aim to resolve it within five working days.
